How-To Manually patch a pre-release minecraft.jar

Below is how to get to the minecraft.jar file on your Windows computer so you can load a new one (ie from pre-release).

If you have the new Minecraft.exe:

  • Open Minecraft (do NOT Login!)
  • Click on Options
  • Click on the link listed next to “Game location on disk:”
  • Close Minecraft
  • Open the “bin” folder
  • I would then suggest renaming the current minecraft.jar file to something else (ie minecraft.jar.1_8 or so) before replacing it
  • Copy your new minecraft.jar into this folder
  • Launch Minecraft again and enjoy playing!
