Comments Off more...Left 4 Dead 2 up and fully running again!
by techie.g33k on May.15, 2010, under News, Video Games
The expected Left 4 Dead 2 server rebuild will not be needed anymore as I was able to fix the srcds_linux memory issues that were causing it to crash randomly. Looks like it was simple enough…well simple when you just completely remove the entire hlds and reload it. Best as I can assume is it must have became corrupt at some point.

by techie.g33k on Dec.30, 2009, under News
Even after a wonderful Christmas this year and a soon-to-start 4 day New Years weekend for me, there is still no Public Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) server online. Still needing to get more memory before turning it back on, but I am keeping it updates so the second I get the memory we will have a public Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) server for everyone to enjoy again.
The Group server is still live and running great, so if you want to play on our server feel free to get a hold of a current S-MLS Steam Group member.
More memory for the Gaming Server (L4D/L4D2 host)
by techie.g33k on Dec.03, 2009, under News, Techie
While playing Left 4 Dead 2 I have seen some odd lag that shows as lost connection in HLSW, but the server itself (the Host/Guest (Dom0/U OS)) doesn’t loose any pings nor does it seem to have any abnormal traffic/usage/load on any of the hardware (NIC, Hard Drives (RAID5), Memory, or CPUs). It also seems to only last a few seconds, but that is still enough to ruin the game for many. It runs smooth after a fresh reboot of the Guest OS (DomU), which makes me think (along with no-ping-lose) that it may be the SRCDS (HLDS) server itself and because I already know I run the memory really tight (due to a lack of it in the server as a whole).
So I am hoping to get 4GB more of ram for the server sometime this month. If anyone has some to donate please do! This will allow me to dedicated 3GB of memory to each Guest (DomU) OS and then 2GB to the Host (Dom0) OS.
It may also be an issue with the sever.cfg file for Left 4 Dead 2 and the bandwidth/rate settings I am using event though I am using the same as I did on Left 4 Dead. But more memory on a gaming server (or any server!) will never hurt!
